Ash class had so much fun today. We wore our pyjamas to school. We had PJ Mask pj's, Santa pj's even Paw Patrol pj's and a Snowman onesie. We enjoyed Aistear play this morning where we have been busy making holiday decorations to take home next week. After Aistear our teacher told us there was going to be a special surprise after we'd had our snack. We all ate our snack super quick and couldn't wait to hear the surprise. Lucky us, we got to go to the hall to watch the movie The Snowman and had a treat of popcorn. We loved the movie and loved chilling out watching it in our pj's. After the movie we were all very sleepy and ready for bed!

Hi parents!
As I mentioned on Aladdin, the video won't be ready until the end of the week as I'm waiting for all classes to send me their video for me to put them all together. Here is a photo of them on stage. They did a great job! This week Ash Class took charge of the iPad and captured some wonderful images of our Aistear Play. Our theme this month is winter. We have had lots of fun in the role-play area being Weather reporters and took the job very serious in the Met Eireann offices. We are exploring Arctic animals in the small world area. In the creative area we have been busy making a giant snow cloud and snowmen. In the construction area we have been busy make igloos for the our snowmen to live in. In our sensory tuff tray we used cornflour, glitter and conditioner to make snow! We used the snow we made to Frosty our snowman for our classroom door. Finally today we made snowflakes to add to our Winter themed door. Take a look at some of the photos we captured this week below.
We were hard at work today making our door decoration!
We decided to make a tree and decorate it with lots of presents underneath. The children did all the painting and the tree was done by painting their palms and putting palm prints all around. Then we waited until the green paint was dried and did some fingerpainting to put lots of colourful decorations on our tree. While groups were doing the painting, the others were hard at work colouring and cutting out lovely presents to go underneath the tree. We hope you like the final product! We are having a super fun morning in Chestnut Class this morning!
We've started our new Aistear theme ' Winter Weather'. We are playing with our water tray, creating an Arctic scene using lots of fake snow, making snowmen decorations, constructing playgrounds and homes for our penguins and even pretending to be on TV giving the weather! This week Ash Class explored Cuisenaire rods in Maths. Cuisenaire is a collection of coloured rods ranging in length from 1cm to 10cm. The rods are used to foster understanding of a wide variety of ideas in number. We began by looking at the shapes, the colours and the length of the rods. Some students commented that the rods reminded them of Minecraft. We spent some time making faces and robots with the rods. We built Humpty Dumpty's wall using the rods and compared what other rods we needed to make six. We played 'Match the Rod' where students placed rods in other students' hands and they had to guess the correct length and find a corresponding rod without looking. Ash Class have also been working hard on their Jolly Phonics. This week we began learning Tricky Words. We had fun this afternoon using play dough to make letters and words.
We love using play dough to build up our fine motor muscles in our hands which will help us with our writing. We always warm up our hands by having a 'Dough Disco'. Check out the video we watched today. Try it at home with your own play dough. :) Have a great weekend everyone! www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOLR3pQt8zg Next week we are starting a new theme in Aistear. We will be learning all about the weather! Today we started getting our small world area ready by breaking up styrofoam to make snow. To say we had fun doing it would be an understatement. I'm not sure the cleaners will feel the same way though!
We are hard at work preparing for our performance of 10 Tubby Snowmen! Today we are painting Snowmen to use in our performance! We've started by painting the bodies of our snowmen. Later we will paint scarves, buttons, noses, eyes and mouths on!
In our song the snowmen melt so later we will paint melted Snowmen on the other side! |
